Saturday
2 June 2007- Fire and police units respond to the area
of Wilbur's Point on Sconticut Neck after it is reported
that a man is missing after leaving a party around 3:00am
Saturday morning. A cell phone is found on the
beach, that is later identified as belonging to the missing
man. Public Safety personnel from Fairhaven, Acushnet,
Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Bristol County Sheriff, US
Coast Guard (Helicopter) and Mass State Police (Helicopter),
along with K-9 and Bloodhound dog teams from several
other departments institute a search that turns up nothing. The
search continues on Sunday morning, 3 June, where Fairhaven
Fire and Police coordinate search efforts, first from
a command point at Hoppy's Landing on West Island where
search boats from various departments are launched and
then at the Wilbur's Point site where divers from SEMLEC
Dive Team (Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement
Council) begin their search of the waters. A recovery
was made late Sunday afternoon.
Wednesday,
September 6, 2006 - One man was killed and another seriously
injured when a piece of aluminum siding they were installing
on the front of the building housing the Old Oxford Pub
at Dean and Main Streets made contact with a power line. The
resulting fire (caused when a gas line was struck by
the electric spike) damaged much of the building. Fairhaven
Police assisted fire and EMS personnel in both the rescue
and fire suppression operations. Mutual
Aid units from Acushnet, New Bedford and Mattapoisett
assisted at the scene. The fire was extinguished
within an hour, but units remained on scene for several
more. The investigation involves the Fairhaven
Fire Department, Fairhaven Police Department, Massachusetts
State Fire Marshall, Massachusetts State Police and the
Bristol
County District
Attorney's
Office.

Wednesday,
August 10, 2007 - The Fairhaven Police Dive Team, as part
of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council
(SEMLEC) participate in a regional dive training session off
Fort Phoenix. Various scenarios were presented to the
divers who's primary mission is recovery of victims and evidence
from the water.
The "Victim" for the
recovery training exercise (a dummy with a weight belt attached
to bring it to the bottom) is launched from a support boat and allowed
to sink to the bottom before the divers get in the water.
This 25 foot patrol boat,
part of the SEMLEC inventory, keeps the dive area clear of other
boats.
Officers aboard the
Fairhaven Police boat keep a watchful eye on the exercises.

Memorial
Day 2006
- Fairhaven celebrates Memorial Day with its annual
parade. This year the parade staged at St. Mary's
Church in North Fairhaven and after a ceremony at Riverside
Cemetery, ended with the flag raising at Fairhaven
High School.
The
Fairhaven Police Dive Team conducted training exercises
at Mary's Pond in Rochester on Wednesday 26 April
as part of a joint effort with the Southeastern Massachusetts
Law Enforcement Council, of which Fairhaven is a
member. These
are some images from that that session.
