The Citizen's Police Academy is a group of Fairhaven residents who have signed up for weekly classes
at police headquarters to learn more about what the department does and the services it provides to the community.

Different police units offer demonstrations, group discussions and training, and the culmination of the ten week course is a "ride-along" whereby the volunteers ride with a police officer on patrol.

Some of the units the citizen's academy members will be introduced to are:

Police Dive Team
Community Policing Unit
Marine Boat Team
Motorcycle Unit
Detective Division
Various laws and regulations the police department enforces
Plus visits to various police training facilities

Citizen's Police Academy members during a recent meeting where the Police Dive Team gave a demonstration with some of the equipment they use.  Dive officers Scott Gordon and Sgt. Kevin Kobza talked extensively about various dive scenarios and missions the team has been called upon to handle.
